I haven’t posted anything on 80’s pop on the site, but I had this song stuck in my head for the last week. In fact, it’s still stuck in my head as I type this. I think it’s because re-editor 80’s Child just released a little edit of this track and it’s infectious vocals and simple lyrics really get lodged in your head. Anyway, I was a bit surprised that I couldn’t find the single or album anywhere. There’s a good bit of the wax single on sale in the Discogs marketplace. (And for cheap too.) The song was pretty popular in ’86 placing high on both the UK and US Singles, Hot 100, and Dance Singles charts. The band was also getting around at the time preforming in a ton of televised appearances, American Bandstand, and Soul Train. Since I never did find this single or the Jets’s self-titled debut album, I dug through my on vinyl collection and was able to get my hands on the single for you to listen to.
It’s a great track that just oozes 80’s pop! The good thing is, the musicianship on all the parts bring it all together to not make it feel too poppy or too teeny bopper to listen to. (Even though the track most certainly was geared toward the mall visiting valley girl.) I know I drop this track from time to time. I’m always surprised to see who is actually singing along with it. Of course, a lot of the women who are dancing sing it. But, I’ve seen a few male bartenders duplicating the video choreography from time to time. The extended cut is definitely where it’s at because of the mixability of it. You can do some pretty good things with the instrumental too. Just got to be a little creative. Enjoy!
