I’m happy to announce that of this morning, I woke to find that at the end of 12/29/15 I reached the goal I set for myself at the beginning of 2015 to get at least 100,000 plays on SoundCloud by the end of the year! I really want to thank everyone who has taken the time to listen to the show via SoundCloud and all of my edits that I’ve posted up there. It means an incredible amount to me. It just further validates the work that I do, even if I’m not the most recognized DJ in my own area.
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure I was going to reach the goal at all, let alone this year. A few months back, SoundCloud started decimating accounts in order to not get sued by big music. Sony came through my page and just ripped my page apart and had SoundCloud remove some of my most popular remixes and re-edits. (Sony also had SoundCloud remove a mix of Christmas music I did. That’s right, Christmas music.) It really was a huge blow to me. It made me feel that no matter how much fans enjoyed my work, it means nothing because big music pulls the strings on everything. There was a time that I literally was feeling the email buzz alert on my phone and just dreading that the email I just received was the one that told me my SoundCloud account was removed. I almost didn’t want to continue posting music onto SoundCloud.
However, I took the remaining tracks I had and pushed it out more, and more. I began to remix and re-edit more obscure tracks, and the work paid off.
One thing I didn’t want to leave out; I still want to thank everyone who listens to my work on other outlets such as iTunes, Mixcloud, Mixcrate, Hearthis.at, and all the plethora of sites out there that connect thousands of people to hear funk, soul, and disco that I spin. If I factored in your plays into this blog post, then I’d be very close to the 175k mark. So thank you all!
It’s about to be 2016, I think this year I’m going to set a goal to reach 250,000 plays and I’m going to do my absolute best to reach it.
