From the blog

I was going through some of the site stats and I noticed that one of the most popular posts on this site was about Evelyn “Champagne” King’s 1981 release “I’m In Love.” I figured, “Why not give the visitors more of what they want?” So here is my review on Ms. King’s follow up album to “I’m In Love” titled “Get Loose.”

1982 was an incredible year! The sort of post/proto disco funk was starting to really become popular. Evelyn “Champagne” King was in the middle of it and was able to be in the right place and the right time. “Get Loose” came out in August of that year. However, one of the album’s singles “Love Come Down” was released a month prior and was already tearing up the Billboard R&B charts. After all when you have dance quality tracks on just about every song and killer basslines; what did you think was going to happen? Just take a listen to the track. I know you’re already grooving as soon as you’re four bars into it.

Get Loose” ended up going certified double platinum! Understandably so to. The whole album is filled with killer hooks, awesome basslines, and memorable melodies. King’s vocals are really top notch on this one. There is no denying it. This album also had some great producers on it as well. One of my personal favorite 80’s artists Kashif was responsible for writing and producing some of the more memorable tracks on this album. Also, Paul Lawrence Jones III was featured prominently throughout most of the other tracks. (I mean if you were signed to RCA in the 80’s chances are you were working with Paul Lawrence one way or another.)  Anyway, just listening to these two tracks that I have previewed here is enough to want to make sure this album gets into your collection. I know you won’t have to look hard to find a copy of it. I know it won’t be the rarest album in your collection either. However, it’s definitely a solid album to have and the tracks on there are all great selections for the dance floor.
