From the blog

One of my all time, favorite funk groups has been the Dazz Band! If you were to ask me what the Dazz Band sounded like, I would say that the Dazz Band would happen if Cameo and Midnight Star had a child and then added a vocoder in the early to mid-80’s.

Their 5th album “Joystick” encompassed everything that the early 80’s had to offer. (Not to mention that this album was also on the same Motown label as Rockwell had his success with his single “Somebody’s Watching Me” and came about the same time frame.)  Thumping chugging basslines, deep layered synths, crying guitars, robotic vocoded vocals, solid drums, catchy lyrics, and of course a song that was double entendre for both sex and video games. The musicianship on this album is nothing but top-notch funk! There are some slow jazzy, saxaphone’y tracks like “Now I Have You” but the rest of the whole album really shines. The album title track “Joystick” and “Swoop (I’m Yours)” are definitely the high points of the album. “Swoop” being my personal favorite. The whole track will have you shaking your ass in no time! I can vouch for this because I have started playing my version of “Swoop as of late when I’m playing the Faculty Lounge in Charleston. The reception I get is just stellar! I saw more people shaking their butts to this song then people who actually knew what this song was! It’s just that damn good. It’s definitely worth keeping it in heavy rotation.
